The name 'Valbona' derives from the Valbona River, that flows through the valley. Valbona Valley is the most well known and desired tourist location in the Kukes Region and is attracting an increasing number of tourists, both international and domestic, each year. Located 30 km to the northwest of Bajram Curri, this valley is dominated by high mountains, offering fantastic views. The Valbona River, with its source at Prokletije near the Montenegro border, flows through the valley. There are a number of spectacular waterfalls and sandy banks located near Valbona Village. This beautiful valley makes up part of the Balkans Peace Park, which runs through the mountain ranges of Montenegro, Kosovo, and Albania.
